Tasty Tuesday: Mama's Meatloaf

It has been two weeks since my last Tasty Tuesday post! I have been cooking and baking a bunch, but didn't document anything much until last night. Every Sunday night, we gather at my parents house and my mother cooks a big Sunday dinner. It's a great time for us to reconnect and catch up on everything that happened during the week. It's something familiar that always keeps us grounded at the end (or beginning of a new week). Last night, she had plans to make her famous meatloaf. Her meatloaf is delicious, mouth-watering even. It's super yummy! She uses no recipe, just approximates measurements of a recipe that is Glam*Ma created. I asked her if she could come up with a recipe and if I could make it for dinner! She loved the idea, so without further ado - here is Glam*Ma's meatloaf recipe aka Mama's Meatloaf!

According to Glammy, you will need-

(For Meatloaf)
  • 3 lbs ground hamburger
  • 1 egg + 1 egg yolk
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1 c. 4-C seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 c. ketchup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • few shakes of onion powder
  • optional - rubber gloves (because Glam*Ma likes to keep things clean and tidy!)
(For Sauce)
  • 1/3 c. ketchup
  • 1/3 c. grape jelly

Put on optional rubber gloves and combine all meatloaf ingredients in a big bowl. Mix with hands until incorporated. Then plop the big meaty mixture into a baking dish and form into a loaf shape. This was a lot more complicated then my mother makes it look. Maybe we are just a couple of perfectionists, but I wanted it to look very loaf-y. Just poke, push, prod, and squish until it resembles a loaf of bread.

Then pop into a 350* oven for 1 hour and 5 minutes. Yes that is the amount of time my mother said to cook it... While the meatloaf is baking, make your glaze by combining the ketchup and grape jelly in a small bowl.

When the meatloaf is done, spread the glaze evenly over the entire loaf and pop back into the oven for another ten minutes, therefore cooking the meatloaf for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes. After it beeps, take it out and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice and serve!!

We ate ours with Todd's famous broccoli (what else?!) and baked potatoes! Yummy! Please let me know if you try Mama's Meatloaf. I promise you will love it!
