Baby's First 4th of July

This past week, Kingston had his very first 4th of July! The 4th of July to our family always means cooking out, swimming, and watching fireworks. Good old fashioned family fun to celebrate the independence of our country. We love to spend our 4th outdoors enjoying the summer weather, grill fare, and fireworks of some sort. This year, Kingston and I got up super early to go for our daily walk. K was super excited to come home and see Dada!

Kingston donned his "red", white, and blue for the day. Generally I get a special "holiday" outfit, but I dropped the ball this year. Each one wasn't "good enough" until finally the day came and we had no cutesy holidays themed "1st" outfit. Oh well! He looked darn adorable sporting his flaming red hair, white polo shirt, and blue cargo shorts!

He was in great spirits too! 4th of July is not a holiday where you generally get "presents", but I couldn't help pick up just a couple gifts for K!

I picked Kingston up this Melissa & Doug Twisting Crab. He has the Melissa & Doug Dinosaur Grasping Toy which reminds me of this little guy. I could not resist buying this crab for multiple reasons. It was another version of a toy K already loves, it was beach themed which would be great for our current Baby School theme, it was red for the 4th of July, and it would be a great toy for Kingston to chomp on (he seems to be getting his first tooth!). Kingston immediately loved it!

I also picked up this awesome 4th of July touch and feel book - Celebrate America (Holiday Foil Books) - at the Used Book Superstore a few months back. I tucked it away for this very day and was very excited to give it to him. He opened it and went right to it "reading" the book and touching all of the pages!

We did some cute 4th of July crafts and then headed over to Kingston's Glam*Ma and Grumpy's house for a day of swimming and fun!

We spent the majority of the day rotating between the pool and the sandbox. Kingston loved being passed around from family member to family member. While everyone ate cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sausage, and other grill food, Kingston tried eggs for the very first time!

After dinner, we lit sparklers. Kingston loved watching the sparklers (at a safe distance of course), and laughed and clapped the entire time!

He did not, however, like the minor fireworks we set off later. I don't blame him! I think I jumped a mile at the sound too. Our little guy had a fun, relaxing, family oriented first 4th of July.

If you celebrate the holiday, how did you spend your day? I hope all of our American readers had a very happy and safe holiday!

Linking up to Magic Moments Monday!
