Establishing Family Traditions: Christmas Book Advent

(Amazon Affiliate links included for your convenience. Thank you so much for supporting us!)

Now that our little family is established and K is a toddler, we are working on establishing some family traditions! I love traditions. In fact, I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to "Future Family Traditions". I am excited to try out some ideas, see what works for our family, and hopefully create some wonderful deep set traditions that my children look back on with joy and continue with their families. Yup. I'm putting A LOT of emphasis on this. It's just how I roll. I love the thought of creating a childhood full of magic for my children. So, with that being said, Christmas Book Advent. I have been planning on doing this since I found it on Pinterest years ago. It's no secret that we love books, so this is absolutely perfect for us.

Since Kingston is going to be 14-15 months old when we do this, I mostly stuck to board books. The few paperbacks that I included are ones that we already owned (either from when I was a child or secondhand). Because K is our first child, we are just growing our holiday library. I am in love with holiday books, especially Christmas, so I imagine we will eventually have a vast array of titles. I picked up quite a few new books on Amazon for him this year because we only had a few. The rest, I picked up secondhand at the Used Book Superstore. I tried to focus on titles I knew he would love.

Here are the books I chose for this years Christmas Book Advent:

That's Not My Snowman... (Usborne Touchy-Feely Books)
Spot's Christmas
That's Not My Reindeer... (Usborne Touchy-Feely Books)
Merry Sparkling Christmas (Sparkling Stories)
Sheila Rae's Peppermint Stick
A House Mouse Christmas
Bright Baby Touch & Feel Merry Christmas (Bright Baby Touch and Feel)
Winter Friends
Clubhouse Christmas (Mickey Mouse Clubhouse)
Snowmen at Christmas
Biscuit's Pet & Play Christmas
Fa La La (Leslie Patricelli board books)
Duck & Goose, It's Time for Christmas!
Good Night North Pole (Good Night Our World series)
Bear Stays Up for Christmas
Merry Christmas, Stinky Face
My First Christmas
Clifford's Christmas
Merry Christmas Mom and Dad (A Golden Look-Look Book)
Tale of the Christmas Mouse
Hallmark The Night Before Christmas Recordable Storybook with Music
Christmastime Is Here (Little people books)
Reindeer Flight School (From the North Pole)
Who's in My Gingerbread House? (Lift-The-Flap Book)

We will also be reading The Polar Express, The Snowbelly Family of Chillyville Inn, and a handful of other little Christmas books that I picked up at the Dollar Tree last year.

I didn't label the books in any order this year. I like the idea of labeling them in the future, however, this year I think he will enjoy picking one for himself. He is still really young, so the excitement of picking his own random book will thrill him. The only book that I numbered was The Night Before Christmas Recordable Storybook with Music. My mom gave this him last year with her voice recorded reading it. We will of course read this on Christmas Eve. We will have our book basket on the hearth filled with other holiday and winter books, and will add our new book to the basket each night (besides the paperbacks, as those would be destroyed within seconds). I am so excited to start this. We will start this Sunday!

Will you be doing a Christmas Book Advent this year? I would love to see your lists and hear about the books you have in your rotation!
