For our first craft this week, I had this genius idea (yup, I'm going to call it that!) to make a balloon using BALLOONS. Okay, stay with me here. I promise this is really cool!

Here's what you will need:
Clear Contact PaperAssorted Color Balloons
1 Piece of Construction Paper
Curling Ribbon
Scissors
Glue
I cut out a rectangle of contact paper and taped it sticky side up on his high chair. Then I put a pile of balloons next to the contact paper and let him explore and stick them to the paper. The balloons I purchased came in all different shapes, sizes, and colors so it made even more interesting for K. He stretched them and examined them. Then he placed them down on the paper one by one.
He was serious about his work, and pulled the balloons up several times to re-position them in different spots! We talked about the different colors of the balloons as he worked. When he was happy with it, he patted it down and told me he was all done.
When he done, I put another rectangle of contact paper over the top, and then I cut it into an oval shape. I then glued a small square of yellow construction paper to the bottom of the "balloon" and then a piece of matching ribbon to the construction paper.
I think it came out awesome, and it looks so fun floating across the wall in my entryway. Kingston is loving pointing at it and saying "boon boon"!
Note: Make sure to be extra careful when exposing your child to latex balloons. After a day of balloon activities, crafts, and fun, it seems pretty clear to me that Kingston has a mild latex allergy. So just be aware that this is a possibility when introducing balloons to your children for the first time. We will still let K experience balloon fun, but only with mylar from now on!
I love this - contact paper is a great material to use with toddlers.
