"All About Me" Themed Books and Products for Toddlers

We are really excited to be focusing on an "All About Me" theme for the next couples of weeks! We will be doing lots of activities based on Kingston and the things that make him who he is such as his family members, his body parts, and his emotions. Here are some of the books and products we will be using for this unit:

Who Loves Baby? Sassy Look Photo Book - We have had this waterproof, baby and toddler friendly photo album since Kingston was about 3 months old! In each of the pockets, I have a photo of Kingston with a different family member. When he was younger he used to like to just look at the different people and point them out, and as he got older he started saying their names. For this unit, I will be updating the photos and using them to explain his family tree and how he is related to each of his family members.

Duck & Goose, How Are You Feeling? - This is such an awesome simple book about feelings for toddlers. It portrays pictures of Duck and Goose with simple bold feeling words next to it. Kingston really likes Duck and Goose and the colors are great.

Eyes, Nose, Fingers, and Toes: A First Book All About You - This book is phenomenal! This is truly one of my favorite toddler "All About Me" books because it goes in depth about everything on the toddlers body. It is definitely worth checking out!

On the Day You Were Born - I wanted to include some books about "being born" in our All About Me unit because that is obviously one of the most important days in a person's life! This book will serve the purpose of introducing that concept to K and also explaining the concept of how he will be an older brother soon.

From Head to Toe Board Book - This fun book pairs animal actions with human actions. As we read, we will be able to follow along and do the actions. I think it will help with body awareness!

The Pigeon Has Feelings, Too! - We love Mo Willems "Pigeon" books! This is an adorable toddler book about feelings. The Pigeon is pretty hard to resist with his heartwarming antics.

Elmo's World First Flap-Book Library: Babies - We have utilized this lift-the-flap series often in our different units. We have never explored the "Babies" book much, but we will be using it during this unit to introduce some of the things K did when he was younger and to illustrate how he has evolved into a toddler!

Eyes & Nose, Fingers & Toes (Sesame Beginnings) - I purchased this series at the Dollar Tree, and I have to say that they are pretty great! K already knows all of his general body parts, but the more repetition the better.

Toes, Ears, & Nose! A Lift-the-Flap Book (Not Pictured) - This book lives at the Glamparents house and we pretty much read it every time we go over! I love that it pairs the body parts with the different clothing items that typically cover them up. This book is great for introducing different body parts (it has a lot of less common ones) and for teaching about the clothing we wear.

The Foot Book: Dr. Seuss's Wacky Book of Opposites - This is a fun classic Seuss book that I thought would be fun to include! K loves to tickle feet, so it will be fun to read him this book.

Little Grown-Ups - I couldn't resist including this adorable book. Each baby/toddler is dressed up in a different grown up costume and it depicts different jobs. This will be a fun introduction to the possibility of what Kingston can be when he grows up!

Where Is Baby's Belly Button? A Lift-the-Flap Book - This is a classic Karen Katz book and definitely had to be included! If you don't have this book, you should!

Ten Tiny Tickles  and Counting Kisses: A Kiss & Read Book - These two Karen Katz books are adorable because not only do they teach the different body parts, but they do so in such a loving manner - tickles and kisses!!

Belly Button Book  - This Sandra Boynton book is funny and a fun way to teach your little one about their bellybutton!

On the Night You Were Born - This is another beautiful book about being born. I love Nancy Tilman!

We will also be including our two personalized books in this unit! "Kingston's Amazing Alphabet Adventures", I had made through Shutterfly for K's 1st birthday. It has his picture on every page, as well as his name! The awesome "A-B-C What Kingston Can Be!" is a fantastic book from I See Me that our friends had made for K for his 1st birthday. It's all about what he can be when he grows up!

Brica Baby In-Sight Mirror - We have an extra one of these mirrors that K will be using throughout this unit. I think it will be wonderful to point out his different facial features in the mirror and to reinforce self awareness!

Melissa & Doug Basic Skills Board - This board is so much fun and so challenging for K! For this unit, we will be practicing self-help skills using this. I used Elmer's Wood Glue to glue the pieces of this puzzle to the board. It was too difficult for Kingston to practice the skills with the pieces moving around all of the time, so a quick glue application and this board was perfect!

Playskool Mr. Potato Head - This classic toy is such an awesome tool in teaching kids about body parts and also about different clothing and accessory options. We have the Disney version of this guy, so K will have a lot of pieces to expand his exploration and pretend play options!

Melissa & Doug Hands Counting Peg Puzzle - Oh how I love this classic Melissa and Doug puzzle!! It is so versatile. This unit we will be using it to not only learn the different parts of the hand, but also to learn numbers and colors. When K picks up a puzzle piece, we first say the part of the hand, then he tells me which color, and repeats the number after I say it. It makes for a very multifaceted puzzle activity!

The Learning Journey Match It! Games - All About Me - I can't say enough good things about these awesome self-correcting puzzles! The age requirement says "4+", but Kingston has been loving exploring the different body parts and pieces. I love how in depth the different parts are, and that he will be able to grow into this. For now, I am helping him find the different matches. He will identify the body parts he knows and we will match them and spell the word out! I can't wait to pick up more of these sets.

Other than what I have described above, we will also be working with the Emotion Words Cards from PreKinders as well as lots of different pictures of Kingston, the things he likes, and his family! Stay tuned for some "All About Me" fun!
