Paper plate crafts are one of my favorites for toddlers! Much like print crafts (another favorite), they are simple and easy for toddlers to do almost independently. Last year during our bug study, K made an adorable paper plate ladybug. This year, I thought it would be fun to revisit that project, but make a bumblebee instead!
For this project you will need:
A Paper Plate
Yellow Washable Paint
Black Construction Paper
Googly Eyes
Pipe Cleaners (Ours were provided for us by CraftProjectIdeas)
Scissors
and Glue
I set the paper plate down for K and squirted some yellow paint onto it. As he painted, I explained to him that he was making the bee's body.
After the plate was dry, I provided Kingston with strips of black construction paper that I had previously cut out. I added glue to the back and demonstrated how to stick them on. He did a really great job getting the stripes pretty straight!
When he was done, I added googly eyes and let him pick which color antennae he wanted. CraftProjectIdeas provided us with a really fun pack of neon colors, and K was immediately drawn to the purple. I attached the purple antennae, and his bee was complete. I think it turned out adorable, and so does K!
