Our recent Baby Book Club meeting was incredibly colorful! We read My Many Colored Days
by Dr. Seuss. This Dr. Seuss book is one of the less popular ones, but we love it. I love the message inside of it, and think it is a great feel good book for toddlers. It is also a great book to read to help teach little ones about their feelings! Kingston did one of his very first fingerpainting activities based on this book, which you can read about here - My Many Colored Days Mixed Media Project.
As usual at the beginning of every meeting, we let the tots run around and play to burn off a little energy. Then, we all sat down and read our book together.
For our snack, I asked everybody to sign up for a different colored fruit. Then we combined all of the different fruits to make one giant colorful fruit salad! All of our kiddos are super healthy eaters, so this was right up their alley. Typically if I make baked goods, they will each take a taste before losing interest. Fruit on the other hand is a different story. They all gobbled this right up!
After we ate our snack, I set up a giant process art mural outside on the deck. It was a beautiful day out, and the perfect day for getting messy and washing up outside. I made sure to use most of the colors in the book. I used super washable paint and the kids wore their bathing suits. I also set out a big bucket of water to wash off in afterwards.
When we let them outside they surveyed the paint before deciding what they wanted to do with it. We encouraged them to paint, and they got right in there!
The toddlers used hands, feet, and their bodies to create their art!
A few kiddos were hesitant to join in, but eventually everyone took a turn adding to the mural.
They loved walking through the paint and making footprints.
This kid sure had a lot of fun!!
When they were all done, they had some fun washing up and engaging in some water play.
This was another fun and successful Baby/Toddler book club meeting!! Stay tuned for our next meeting where we read Little Blue Truck Board Book
by Alice Schertle!
