Tape Resist Hanukkah Crafts

(Affiliate links included for your convenience!)

Today is the first day of Hanukkah! I don't think I've ever mentioned this on the blog before, but my father is Jewish. Growing up with always got to get one gift early for Hanukkah and we would eat brisket, potato latkes, and matzoh ball soup to celebrate. Hanukkah for us was just one night, but it was always a lot of fun! It was great being able to grow up with the best of both worlds, and I would like to continue that tradition with my kiddos. Starting next year, I want to host an annual Hanukkah dinner over at my house with yummy food, dreidel games, and gifts! Until then, I thought it would be fun to commemorate this special holiday by making some tape resist art.

I chose to have Kingston paint a dreidel and a Star of David. When making tape resist art, it is easiest to go with designs that have straight lines, and both of these fit the bill! I took two pieces of white cardstock and created the designs using masking tape. Masking tape covers with paint the easiest and peels off without much hassle. I gave K some blue fingerpaint and a paint brush, and he went to work covering the entire paper.

Once the paint had dried, I peeled off the tape and revealed the design. The best thing about tape resist art is that it doesn't have to be perfect! As long as you can tell what it is, you're golden.

Happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate!
