So, I have a secret! For the past month and a half I have been on Nutrisystem! I'm sure you have heard of it, and I'm incredibly excited to share my journey with you as a #NSNation blogger. I never talk about weight loss and fitness on the blog, but lets face it. For the majority of us, weight is a constant struggle. A lot of people have preconceived notions about the Nutrisystem program, so I'm here to put your mind at ease and hopefully inspire you to start your own journey!
The Skinny (aka the NOT so skinny...)
I have battled my weight for as long as I can remember. I like to think that I had a couple years as a toddler where I was average, but lets face it, I arrived at 9.6 lbs and it's been a struggle ever since! I have been on every diet under the sun, but the only one that I had some serious success with was Nutrisystem. I was on NS back in college for about 5 months. I lost 40 lbs, and felt the best I had felt in years, but money was tight and I couldn't afford to order anymore. Fast forward 4 years and two babies, and I am back to finish what I started!
Before I tell you about my progress on the program thus far, I want to address a few common myths that surround the Nutrisystem program.
Myth 1 - IT'S EXPENSIVE
Ok, so this is a myth that I prescribed to at one point in time. I thought, "Nutrisystem is SO expensive. I know I could lose the weight, but at what cost?" That was my thought process before I discovered several things. The first thing that has DRASTICALLY reduced the cost of NS are Costco giftcards. Costco sells giftcards for the Nutrisystem program (they also sell the program itself, but that's another topic entirely). The giftcards themselves are $79.99 for a $100 giftcard. However, at certain times during the year, they go on sale for $59.99!! That is an amazing savings. STOCK UP! This will cut your cost incredibly. Another thing that helps save are the discounts that NS offers themselves. As you stay on the program and progress, they sometimes apply discounts to your order. Signing up for auto-delivery is another Nutrisystem based way to save. They also offer a program called Buddy Bucks which allows your friends to save money, as well as you! The last way you can save on NS is through your health insurance. This isn't necessarily available through every insurance, but a lot of insurance companies offer discounts for the program! Any little bit helps in saving money.
Myth 2 - It doesn't teach you anything.
This is simply not true. I have heard from lots of people, that "Nutrisystem doesn't teach you anything because you are not eating real food." Well, this is a falsehood. NS DOES teach you something. In fact, it teaches you many valuable behaviors that help change your eating habits in the long run. I've heard that it isn't "practical" because you are eating pre-packaged food, and that just isn't real life. Well what Nutrisystem does is teach you portion control. You are not only eating NS food either, you supplement with veggies, powerfuels (proteins) and smartcarbs (fruit and whole grains). You learn to eat 6 small meals a day, drink your water, and eat your veggies. Portion control is huge, and while you may not eat the NS food for your entire life, you will learn to eat smaller portions. Even if you do not eat Nutrisystem forever, you can still follow the program!
Myth 3 - The food is awful!
NOT TRUE NOT TRUE NOT TRUE!! Ok, let's be honest here. When I went on Nutrisystem in college, the food was not the best. I honestly lived off their tacos and pizzas every single night. I didn't like the majority of the shelf stable food. However, since then things have changed BIG TIME! They now offer frozen food in addition to their shelf stable items. I can't even begin to tell you how delicious their frozen food is! In fact, I look forward to having meals. I feel like I'm cheating constantly. Only on Nutrisystem can you eat sticky cinnamon buns for breakfast, cheeseburgers for lunch, pizza for dinner, and a chocolate cupcakes for dessert. I mean come ON! Is this even a DIET?! I am in love with ALL of their frozen food, and a lot of their shelf stable breakfast and dessert too. Everyone's tastes are different though, so you may like everything!
What can you expect in your box/boxes?
Your shipment will either come in one or two boxes depending on whether you ordered both frozen food and shelf stable or just shelf stable. Inside, the food will be color coded according to what meal it is. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert all have different colors to make it easy to sort and keep track of. You will also receive your daily tracker to keep track of all your meals. As you lose weight with Nutrisystem, you will also begin to receive Nutribears in your orders! For every 10 pounds lost, you will receive a different colored stuffed bear with that number on it. It's a fun little incentive to look forward to!
