It's no secret that getting off track of your healthy eating plan can be cause for complete and total sabotage. If eating healthy was simple, everyone would be fit and in shape. With Nutrisystem, it IS simple. All of the guess work is taken out of the portion control, there is no counting calories, and with a few yummy grocery store additions, you are in business. But what about when you fall off the bandwagon? What about when you have a planned indulgence? If you have been following along with me, then you know that last week I wrote about indulging on the Nutrisystem plan. Sometimes indulging is necessary, BUT getting back on track immediately is the most important next step.
But what about when getting back on track is difficult? Here are a few tips for getting back on track with Nutrisystem.
1) Switch up your powerfuels and smartcarbs! Eating the same things every day can get tiring. Luckily with NS, they have a TON of food options. However, once you've tried them all, you know exactly what to expect and sometimes that can lose its fun (not for long though since NS is constantly coming out with NEW and EXCITING foods!) One thing you can control are your extras! If you typically eat low fat string cheese and yogurt for your powerfuels, switch them to deli meat and eggs or sliced chicken and cheddar etc. Switch your smartcarb from apples to whole grain crackers. Keep it new, keep it exciting, and keep it fun.
2) Get creative with your VEGGIES! Okay, I know what you are thinking. What could possibly be exciting about vegetables? I was someone who hardly ever ate veggies before Nutrisystem. It is one of the biggest pluses besides weight loss that I have experienced with this plan. Because vegetables are something you can have a great amount of, I have found (and keep finding) new and exciting veggie side dish options. Instead of eating cucumbers and cherry tomatoes plain as I did in the beginning, I now eat them with a spray of olive oil, some sea salt, and a sprinkle of feta - a simple and delicious tomato and cucumber salad! I count the feta as an extra for the day. I enjoy it so much more, and that is what counts. When you are looking forward to you veggies, you know you are in a good place. Don't just eat the broccoli straight up, doctor it up! Pinterest is your friend!
3) Weigh in more than once a week! Everyone has a different method of weighing in, but I know that for me I weigh in "officially" once a week and usually do a midweek check around Wednesday or Thursday. Weighing in daily though can help you get back on track by showing your what you are doing wrong or right. If you have struggled with getting back on track the day before and see a gain, you will be more apt to nip it in the bud. If you have been doing great and see a loss, you will be more motivated to stay on plan without any slip ups! You are keeping yourself accountable, and sometimes that can be the most difficult thing to do.
4) Talk to your Nutrisystem counselor! Another amazing aspect of NS is that they have counselors available 24/7 to talk to. Honestly, they are awesome. You may think, "I don't need a counselor. That's ridiculous." But Nutrisystem counselors know what you are struggling with. They know the plan inside and out, and are ready and willing to assess you meal plans and give you ideas to get back on track. They are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. Chatting with a counselor for just a few minutes is a great way to get back on track.
I hope these tips were helpful! Now let's see where I am at this week.
My results
Week 1 : -12.8
Week 2: +1
Week 3: -2
Week 4 : -2
Week 5 : -3.8
Week 6 : +2
Week 7: - 3.4
Week 8: -3.4
Week 9: In Disney - no weigh in
Week 10: +12
Week 11: -9
Week 12: -1.5
So I didn't quite get back to where I wanted to be this week, but the steady loss is reason enough to celebrate. I am certain I will be under where I was prior to the Disney trip by this next weigh in. Then I can officially wipe the slate clean and continue to meet my weight loss goals!
