Welcome to another month of Book Club Play Dates! This month we read Llama Llama Red Pajama
by Anna Dewdney. This is one of Kingston's absolute favorite series. I love the rhyming text and the beautiful illustrations. The Llama stories are absolute musts for the preschool set! For our portion of the playdate this month, we were in charge of a craft. We made a simple and beyond adorable Llama Llama footprint craft!
To create the paint for our Llama Llama, we mixed brown washable paint
and white washable paint
to make the tan of Llama's skin. I brushed it onto Kingston's foot and printed it down with the foot tilted slightly to the right. Then I let Kingston paint a rectangle for the neck using some of the leftover paint. I painted a floppy llama ear coming off the left side of K's footprint. I finished off the neck, and then drew the red outline of his pajamas. Kingston helped me color it in.
When the paint was dry, we glued on two large googly eyes
and drew the facial details with brown marker
. We were both absolutely in love with the finished product, and Kingston loves it so much that he wants to hang Llama Llama in his room! I love that by using the paint for our print craft (instead of the ink that we usually do), we were able to create a watercolor illustration similar to the beautiful ones in these books!
