The first book that we are reviewing is Dewey Bob
by Judy Schachner, author of the beloved Skippyjon Jones
series!
From Penguin: "Dewey Bob Crockett is a durn cute raccoon who lives by himself in a house filled to the brim with the wonderful objects he collects. Buttons, wheels, furniture and bricabrac adorn his cozy quarters and keep him busy as he finds and fixes, turning trash into treasures. But there’s something missing from Dewey’s collections—a friend! He tries gathering up some critters and bringing them home in his shopping cart, but that doesn’t work out so well. In the end, a friend does come Dewey’s way, and, with a little DIY help from this clever raccoon, returns again and again."
What we thought:
This book is so cute! The illustrations are absolutely lovely, and there is so much going on in the pictures alone, that your little ones of all ages will be riveted. Dewey Bob is just plain CUTE! His large raccoon cheeks are super sweet, and the fact that he is just a little bit different than every other raccoon is endearing. I love the message of finding true frienship. Dewey Bob is a collector at heart, collecting anything and everything. However, he quickly learns that all those things aren't much fun without someone to share it with, and he can't collect friends in the way that he's used to collecting items! By being helpful and using the things he's collected for good, he is able to make a lifelong friend.
Kingston (3) and Bentley (1) both enjoyed the book. It is quite long for a toddler to sit through, but was perfect for my preschooler who has a large attention span. K loved the name "Dewey Bob", and thought he was super silly, especially when he tried to collect all of the animals in his shopping cart!
