One of the things that I absolutely love about Mother Goose Time is how versatile it is. This month's theme is Superheroes. Each week there is a subtopic which is broken down further into daily topics. While each of these daily topics go well with the overall theme, they can also stand alone! Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle were three days that stuck out to me this month. We decided to do a week long unit study based on just these days. The best thing about MGT is that you can work at your own pace. If you wanted to extend some previous days and save these to use later on, you could. Getting that Mother Goose Time box at your door every month means infinite options for incorporating the amazing lesson plans inside in your homeschool!
Over the next couple of weeks, we will be sharing an activity from each of these days.
Each day MGT brings you 4 activities (not to mention your circle time and closing time routines). Included in the Reduce day are the following activities:
Lights Out brings math to life by using light bulb manipulatives and math story cards.
Help the Earth provides a Draw and Dictate sheet where your child could place their handprints and discuss what they can do to help the Earth.
Save Water is a play dough investigation station where the kids explore how to stop leaks.
Leaky Faucet asks the question "What can we do to use less water each day?" and encourages children to use scientific reasoning and hands on problem solving to figure out how to fix the issue.
Included in the Reuse day are the following activities:
Can Targets gets kids utilizing their gross motor skills by rolling an inflatable globe at some recycled cans.
Upcycle Art will have your child thinking outside the box as they create art out of random materials.
Storage Container is a Tinker & Scrap station where kids will use recyclables to make a recycling receptacle.
Box Imagination has kiddos thinking logically about how they could reuse recyclables.
(Sneak Peek: The wax sticks were a HUGE hit on this day!)
Included in the Recycle day are the following activities:
Recycle Sort works on patterns and shape/color recognition while the kids engage in the act of recycling.
Paper is an exciting physical science activity that has the children making their own homemade paper.
Knock Down & Rebuild is a Block investigation station where kids build buildings with certain blocks and then knock them down and try to rebuild using the same recycled blocks.
Be a Superhero combines listening comprehension and gross motor as the children respond to the participation story.
