This was an extra addition that I added at the request of the boys! As they painted, I asked them some of the prompts from the Teachers Guide. They were both pretty set on using every color available and as much as they possibly could! We talked about what symbols they wanted on their surfboards. Bentley drew all kinds of pictures that he quickly covered up with more paint and more pictures! Kingston was more methodical in his painting. When they were finished, they had so much paint on their boards that they would never dry. So instead of waiting for hours, we flipped them over and pressed them into the paper towels they were using underneath. I like that this added a fine motor element to the craft! He liked that! We discussed what would happen to the paper. The handprint he made was pretty non-existant. Bentley's handprints were much darker than the sunbleached paper. We talked about the importance of using sunscreen so that your skin doesn't end up burned like the paper. The kids really liked it, and as we were sitting down to start our project, they were excitedly discussing what they would like to build out of sand if they could. One of the really fun things about \u003Ca href=\"https:\/\/www.mothergoosetime.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EMother Goose Time\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;is that they include separate cards for certain activities. When the boys saw all of the materials in one place with the inspiration picture in the background, they were excited and ready. I gave them each a piece of background paper, a piece of sand paper, a piece of blue cellophane, some sand, scissors, and glue. They were both incredibly engaged, and I was impressed with their work. Bentley recently started cutting shapes with scissors, so watching him try to freehand shapes without frustration was really exciting. Perfectionist Kingston also seemed pleased with the shapes he cut out. Their finished products were wonderful! K is always playing with ours, playing with his own, taking them on and off. (They NEVER stay on mind you.) So when Kingston accidentally bent a pair of Hubby's sunglasses, I thought that before we threw them away we could do something fun with them. He seemed to think it was a little weird that there was paint on them (which it was!) and examined them closely. I attached it to the back of the paper plate with some glue. Then I attached the large googly eye halfway down the plate, drew a marker mouth and drew an indentation at the top of the whale's head for it's blowhole. I cut out three skinny strips of blue construction paper and folded them accordion style. Then I glued them coming out of the blowhole to simulate water.
