Don’t let that discourage you from sensory play, though. Here are some taste-safe sensory activities for toddlers and babies.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n“Taste-safe” means the ingredients of the activities are technically edible. We have repeated this activity so many times, and it’s always a huge hit.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/edible-toddler-sensory-activities\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ECool Whip Sensory Play\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\nShaving cream isn’t always doable with younger kiddos. Let the little ones play with water and ice. We added a taste-safe “secret” ingredient to make it colorful and scented too.\n\n\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/oats-grits-and-spices-can-be-used-to-create-various-taste-safe-sensory-activities-for-toddlers.jpg\"\u003E\u003Cimg alt=\"oats, grits, and spices can be used to create various taste safe sensory activities for toddlers\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-13182\" src=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/oats-grits-and-spices-can-be-used-to-create-various-taste-safe-sensory-activities-for-toddlers.jpg\" height=\"217\" width=\"650\" \/\u003E\u003C\/a\u003E\n\n\u003Cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/sensory-play-with-oats\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ESensory Play with Oats\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\nThis incredibly simple sensory bin led to hours of fun for kids of all ages.  Children can scoop, measure, pour, and even add water for a stickier experience. We’ve also tried \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/apple-pie-sensory-play\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EApple Pie\u003C\/a\u003E and \u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/pumpkin-pie-sensory-play\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EPumpkin Pie\u003C\/a\u003E versions of our oat bin, and they were both successful!  For my preschoolers, I added glass jewels and pompoms to the “pie” sensory play.  I’d remove those for younger children who still put things in their mouths.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/pretend-play-and-sensory-activities-with-grits\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003ESensory Fun with Dry and Frozen Grits\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\nGrits might not be the first thing you think about when it comes to sensory play, I know!  The children loved using the dry grits in a “farm bakery”, and the frozen grits were an icy experience for the toddlers!\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\n\u003Cspan style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"\u003E\u003Ca href=\"http:\/\/fun-a-day.com\/vanilla-spice-sensory-writing\/\" target=\"_blank\"\u003EVanilla Spice Sensory Tray\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/span\u003E\nThe ingredients for this sensory writing\/drawing tray are all taste-safe, and they smell wonderful! I wanted the tracks to look like they had been made in sand, and the cinnamon and sugar topping was the perfect way to do this. I made the cookies according to the package, however prior to baking I imprinted them with one of the toy dinosaurs feet. Then when they came out and were still warm and pliable, I imprinted them again. This week, I set up a fun Valentine themed fine motor playdough invitation to play. K is brand new to playdough, and besides a few unsuccessful attempts in the past, this was the first time that he actually engaged in playdough play! I made the playdough using the basic flour\/salt\/cream of tartar recipe that I have made dozens of times in my former teaching days. It stays for up to 6 months in an air tight container, which is key for me since I don't like to waste.
